From the FREE Assessments of the many "Hunting-Related" web sites I do (for our clients and from the list of web sites on our TRMichels.com Hunting Directory Webring), it is obvious that many "Hunting-Related" web site owners/managers/administrators believe that, by just having a web site on the internet, their potential clients will find them. In theory this sounds good; but, it is simply not the case!!!

In order for your potential customers to be able to find you on the internet, you have to promote your site, just like you probably advertise or list your business in the phone book. The way many Internet "surfers" look for hunting products and services is by either typing in some "key words" or "key phrases" in the search box on one of the Search Engines (like Google) where your site may appear on one of several pages, depending on how your site "Ranks" with them.

Another way they may find your site is by using one of the several "Hunting Webrings" or Hunting Directories" on the Internet. And, just like your web site, these webrings and directories are "Ranked" based on several different criteria.

I'll explain how you can make your site "Rank" better on the Search Engines in a minute. But first let me tell you that our webring, the TRMichels.com Webring Hunting Directory, has consistently "placed" at the top of page 1 on Google and many other Search Engines, which means that IF your web site is on our webring, it makes your web site easy to find. It is just one of the things you can do to help Promote your web site.

In the first year that I began to actively look for ways to Promote our web site (Trinity Mountain Outdoors at www.TRMichels.com) went from a "0" Rating on Google to a "4" Rating; with no links to our web site, to over 7 pages of links on Google alone; with over 1400 links on the four top Search Engines (Google, MSN, Yahoo and Teoma). Obviously we are doing something right!

This is what I have discovered. Search Engine Link Popularity and high Search Engine Page Rank are two of the keys to Internet "surfers" being able to find your web site. What good is it to have a web site if your potential clients can't find it?

There are a lot of things you CAN do to increase your presence on the Internet, to increase the number of "hits" your site receives, and to increase your sales. The question is: "Are you willing to do it, and can you afford it?" I can assure you that you can afford it. Here is what you can and should do if you want to increase your presence on the Internet, and increase your sales.

Search Engine Submission (SES)

One of the reasons you may not appear on the Search Engines, or why you may have a low Page Rank, is because you may not have done a Search Engine Submission. Over 85 % of all Internet Searches are done on Google. In order to be easily found on the Internet, you have to be on Google, and you generally have to pay to get on it. A Search Engine Submission is one of the first things you should do to make it easier for your potential clients and customers to find your web site. We can submit your web site to Google and 1500+ other Search Engines for $75.

Google Page Rank (PR) and Page Position

As I said, over 85 % of all Internet Searches are done on Google. In order to be easily found on the Internet, you should have a Google Page Rank of at least 3-4. Your site should also be found on one of the first two pages of the other Search Engines. Ideally you want to be in the top 10 positions on the first page when internet surfers type in "keywords" or "keyphrases" like deer hunting guides, or elk hunting rifles, or duck hunting books. You can increase your Page Rank and your Page Position on Google and the other Search Engines by employing the following procedures.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Make sure you have all of the proper META Tags in the HTML codes on your home page. Many web site owners are unaware of these necessary codes, especially if they designed the site themselves, and even if they had someone else design their site; these META Tags are currently still very important. If you do not have ALL of the necessary META Tags on your home page, which allow the Search Engines to "read" your page, and determine what you offer (which determines how you rank with them) your web site will Rank low. We can do a Search Engine Optimization, and supply you with the proper META Tags for your web site (so the Search Engines can "read" your site) which should increase your rankings, and your hits. Ideally you want to try to have your site appear on the second to first page of the Search Engines, using the "keywords" and "keyphrases" in your META Tags. We can do this for $25 for the first page, and $10 for each additional page.

Both the number of links you have going to other web sites, AND the number of other web sites that have links to your site, are considered by the Search Engines when they Rank your web site. You should have a Links Page on your site, and link to as many other hunting -related sites as you can. And you should ask other sites to link with your site. This is called "Reciprocal Linking". It will increase your Page Rank, and consequently the number of "hits" your site receives.

Many hunters use "Hunting-related" Webrings and top Sites to locate the services or products they are looking foras they surf the Internet. You may have the Banners or flashing Ads for these on some of the web sites you have visited. Internet surfing "Hunters" are becoming more aware that Webrings and Top Sites are a good way to find what they want. So, you should join as many "outdoor-related" Webrings and Directories as you can, and join every outdoor-hunting-fishing Top Site as you can. (Trinity Mountain Outdoors is on 4-5 Webrings and 6 Top Sites.) These will all increase your traffic. We can do this for you for $50 for 5+ Webrings, and $50 for 5 Top Sites. Or you can spend the numerous hours it will take to do it yourself.

You can also increase your web presence, and Promote your web site, by writing good or relevant hunting related articles, and offering them free to other web sites, provided they give you a link back to your site. I currently offer articles to over 40 other hunting web sites. To see how well this works type the name "T.R. Michels" in the search box on Google, then look at the number of links there are from articles on other web sites back to www.TRMichels.com or Trinity Mountain Outdoors.

Another thing you can do to Promote yourself, and your web site, is to join as many Talk Forums and Message Boards as you can, and post insightful hunting tips, or answer questions asked by the members. This will help Internet hunters become acquainted with you, and your business. Be careful not to promote your business too much; it may get you banned from some forms and boards. Check the rules to see what you can or can't do.

You should send out Press Releases, every time you add or change something you offer, to as many publications and web sites as you can. I also write Press Releases, and do Press Release Submissions to 40+ web sites, 20+ outdoor newspapers, and 40+ hunting magazines. If they publish your Press Release, it can do you a lot of good. You should Advertise your product or service, on as many different web sites as you can, and in as many different publications as you can. Pick the ones suited to your service or product, and pick the best ones you can afford.
